What matters in a long-distance bib short
A dense pad, not a thick one
The obvious assumption is that a longer ride needs a thicker pad. Testers disagree. Density matters more than thickness, and too much foam causes its own problems:
Endurance-focused chamois pads will be thicker to cater for longer hours in the saddle and will usually have denser foam at the rear to cater for a more upright position.
it's worth looking for a pair with a pad that's dense, even if it's not thick, to help protect you from the saddle on longer rides.
You don't want your chamois to be too thick though, as you'll sink into it, you'll get sweaty and it will be prone to rub.
A fit you won’t notice after eight hours
Race shorts are tight to save watts. On a 300km audax that pressure becomes the problem. Look for moderate compression, wide leg grippers and a bib that doesn’t pull down on your shoulders when you sit more upright late in the ride.
